Rhododendron Honey from the Pyrenees

“The mountain acacia”
If rhododendron honey is produced in the Alps, mainly in Italy, it is in the eastern part of the Pyrenees that French production is significant. Its production, limited geographically, requires mild weather during flowering which extends between the beginning of June and mid-July, or even the end of July, depending on the year, altitude and exposure. The honey offered here is produced by a beekeeping farm located in the heart of the Pyrénées Ariégeoises Regional Natural Park. The hives are transhumed at the beginning of June on a site at 1500 m overlooking the Vicdessos valley, allowing the foragers to reach a rhododendron moor located at more than 1800 m.
